Danny Cottage - print header

It is with deep regret that we will no longer be welcoming our guests to Danny Cottage. Bookings will not be taken after the 1st of December 2023.

We will miss you all, particularly our long time friends, but we are not getting any younger or healthier. It is time for us to retire.

Danny will become a private home to new owners. We can recommend Classic Cottages with whom we have been working for several years.

Welcome to Danny Cottage

Danny Cottage is a lovely Grade II listed thatched cottage bought from the National Trust by long-time Alfriston residents, Kitty and Michael Ann and has been extensively and sympathetically restored and furnished and equipped to the highest standard. It is located in stunning countryside along a quiet lane but within an easy ten minute walk to the village of Alfriston, one of the most beautiful villages in England. If you can bear to leave the cottage you will be amazed at the dozens of things there are to see and do. This self-catering cottage can accommodate up to six guests. You can dine inside the cottage or in the lovely setting of the garden or at one of the many excellent pubs and restaurants in the immediate area. Although a minimum of week-long stays are preferred, off-season Danny Cottage can provide a weekend escape from the hustle of city-life.

Danny Cottage: Who comes & why?
Many Danny Cottage guests are regulars. They come and stay once or twice a year, often every year and have done so since Michael and Kitty first offered the cottage for holiday rent in 1999.

They travel from as far away as Australia and as close as Brighton. Some come for peace and quiet, to relax and read favourite books in the garden on balmy summer days, or to stretch out on the sofa in the cosy sitting room in the winter. But most love Danny Cottage for where it is, in the heart of the South Downs, now a National Park, and for the wonderful choice of walks available right on its doorstep.

"If I ever become a rich man,
Or if I ever grow to be old,
I will build a house with deep thatch
To shelter me from the cold,
And there shall the Sussex songs be sung
And this story of Sussex told.

I will hold my house in the high wood
Within a walk of the sea,
And the men that were boys when I was a boy,
Shall sit and drink with me."

Hilaire Belloc

We look forward to seeing you soon.
